July 2012: Ross Sutherland

As Shake the Dust came to an end in July 2012, so did my time working alongside Ross Sutherland, the Poet Coach for Cambridge. Founder of Aisle 16 with Luke Wright, I first came across his work when working at Penned in the Margins one summer. I got to read the manuscript of Twelve Nudes and really enjoyed it.

I saw him perform at Latitude, as well as an Aisle 16 reunion in Norwich and saw that his poetry works just as well on the stage as the page. Humour is often important in his work, but it is also intelligent and thought-provoking.

August 2012 sees the release of his latest full poetry collection, Emergency Window. He is also currently performing the show ‘Comedian Dies in the Middle of a Joke’ during August’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
